Ramanasekhar Steels Ltd. (RSL) promoted by Shri A Ramana Sekhar and his two brothers was originally set up in 1978, as a partnership firm, inthe name of M/s A. Ramanasekhar for trading in long products like TOR STEEL, FLATS, ANGLES etc.
Shri A.Ramana Sekhar, the main promoter and brain behind in setting-up the Steel Coil Center, is a first generation entrepreneur. He has graduated in Science and Diploma holder in Financial Management and has been engaged in trading and manufacturing of steel products for over 30 years. He is assisted by his two brothers - a) Shri A. Suresh Kumar, who is a Law graduate and has over 25 years of experience in Marketing of Hot Rolled(HR) and Cold Rolled(CR) steel products; b) Shri A. Sreekanth, who is a Chartered Accountant and has over 20 years of experience in Finance & Administration of the Units promoted by them.
To begin with, the firm started dealing in long products and structural steel on retail basis. Having gained a foothold in this segment of the market, they focused on specializing in trading of Tor Steel. Over the years, the firm developed an impressive long clientele base of construction companies, including Alacrity Foundations, G.R. Natarajan & Co. and host of others in and around Chennai.
The firm which had become a leading retailer turned into wholesaler .In recognition of the firm's growing stature and its increasing trading volume, SAIL and IISCO appointed the firm as their authorised dealers in 1988. The firm received a further shot in the arm with its appointment as Vizag Steel's first dealer in Chennai. Having developed the trading volume/turnover to sizeable level, the promoters felt the need to become a Corporate entity and therefore incorporated Ramanasekhar Steels Private Ltd.(RSPL) in 1993. ESSAR STEEL then appointed RSPL as their authorised dealer mainly for supply of material directly to the end users, besides for trading purpose.
The promoters, while focusing on developing into leading steel merchants through RSL on one hand, decided at same time to enter into manufacturing activity to add value to steel and tap the potential available for certain finished steel products. The promoters set-up M/s. Sri Bharani Steels & Industries (SBSI) in the year 1989 and M/s. Trishna Engineering Works (TEW) in the year 1992 at Madhavaram, as partnership firms.
The group’s first manufacturing facility, Sri Bharani Steels & Industries, was started in the year 1989 and manufactures drums & barrels from 20 lts to 165 lts capacity catering to the requirements of paint and lube industry. Its major customers include Kansai, Goodless Nerolac Paints Ltd, Sheenlac Paints, KCC Paints Ltd. Anabond Essex India Pvt. Ltd. MRF Ltd, Balmer Lawrie etc., The company has been improving its performance consistently every year.
Trishna Engineering Works was started in the year 1992 and are manufacturers of MS Bright Bar, which are used in the automotive sector. The unit has been servicing various end users (L& T, ICF etc ) and traders who are suppliers to the TVS group. It has installed three sets of machines comprising Pointing machine, drawing machine and cutting and reeling machine. Its production capacity covers the entire processing range of products from 5.5 mm to 80 m.m thickness.
The Group’s association with Essar gave birth to the idea of setting up a Steel Coil Service Center. Ramanasekhar Steels Limited (RSL) was incorporated in 1993 in the state of Tamilnadu as a Private limited company and was converted into a public limited company in 1995.
